How to dissolve a grievance
Today is the anniversary of 9/11. Do you want to live without the anger and resentment? If so, take a moment to commit to what we are going to do.
Now, bring to mind a person or persons or entity that you hold a grievance against.
How does thinking about them make you feel?
This anger and resentment is hiding the light of awareness from you. This anger and resentment is obscuring the experience of serenity from you. This anger and resentment is a dark heavy itchy cloud that taints your consciousness.
Do you believe that this entity hurt you; do you believe this entity is causing you anger and resentment?
Wait a moment. Wasn’t it the thinking about them that caused it ? Yes - They didn’t hurt you. Only your perception hurts you.
We seem to live in physical bodies but that’s an illusion. Only spirit is real. And we are all connected. What you think about another person, you are thinking about yourself. There is only one of us here. Literally.
I know the anger and resentment is satisfying because it feels justified. I was abused throughout my childhood and into adulthood so I know. I know. It feels good and right and protective.
But is your desire for peace more passionate? Is it deeper? Do you want to be happy?
If not, that’s OK. Be where you are.
If so, let’s continue. I promise, only relief is on the other side. You cannot fail because Spirit is with you. You are spirit. We are spirit. Together. Separateness is an illusion.
So, think of your mind as a circle of clarity. On the outer rim is the anger and resentment - the heavy dark cloud. And beyond that is the light of serenity; of peace; of true awareness.
Now breathe in. Breathe out. As you breathe out your mind expands and starts to dissolve the darkness. Spirit is with you. With every breath, the cloud dissipates a bit more. The entity who seems to have caused you harm is fading.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
Soon you see the light on the other side of the cloud. Keep going. Let the tears come. Let the fury come. Breathe the sensations out. Keep going until the cloud is gone and you feel calmer.
It worked, right?
Now, you may say that it was just imagination. It wasn’t real. It was too easy. But that is not so. Perception makes our experience. Shakespeare told us, “We are such stuff as dreams are made on. “
We are in control of the dream. We are this powerful. We can and should choose peace.
